About Me

Headshot of Lauren Younker

Hi, I’m Lauren Younker!

I am an editorial professional with years of experience working at traditional publishing houses. During my time in publishing, I’ve read a lot of books and made a lot of edits! I have worked on over 50 titles in a range of categories like cookbooks, memoirs, biographies, gardening books, professional and academic titles, historical fiction, and more. I’ve moved up the ranks from the entry-level role of editorial assistant up to the decision-making acquisitions editor, all the while, learning what makes a good book. In fact, not just a good book, but a great book! And what makes a great book? Thoughtful, conscious, and consistent writing.

Every writer has the potential to convey their message or story through words, but sometimes, they need a little help. That’s where I come in. From start to finish, let me help with the editorial process. My services include reviewing proposals and query letters, planning, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Take a look at the full description of each type of editing over on the Services page.

Aside from working as an editor, I live in Miami, Florida, with one cat, one dog, and a lot of books. I love reading fantasy novels but also enjoy a great romance book and a good thriller, and enjoy reading weekly manga and manga volumes. Some of my favorite authors are T.S. Gibson, Octavia E. Butler, Louise Erdrich, Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù, Dana Schwartz, Wataru Nadatani, Sarah Hawley, Ali Hazelwood, and Holly Black. Of course, you can’t go wrong with a good classic (yes, I own two copies of Jane Eyre, and no, I do not need only one copy)! I also volunteer as a Technical Writing Co-Team Leader for the Pet Cancer Foundation, combining my love of animals with writing and editing.

I’m looking to take on new clients and transform incredible stories and ideas into completed literature. Feel free to look through past Projects I’ve worked on in varying capacities and reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks for stopping by!
